Danielle Lima
Author and Screenwriter
From a very young age, I've been a keen reader and a very imaginative storyteller, always aware of the power of language and very fond of places, characters, possibilities, and realities other than those that were part of my life.
Inspired by films and literature with strong female and sensitive lead characters that helped shape my view of the world and my creative process, I pursued my dream of writing films, through a humanist lens, that would explore a new take on women, on people and their voices. I am in search of an authentic and genuine experience that can give me a sense of achievement and truth I constantly look for.

THE INVISIBLE WOMAN
Drama / Fiction
The plot proposes a reflection on the memories we carry for life and shape who we are. The beautiful relationship between a little girl and her granny will lead us to underlying themes on mental health and its intrinsic link to male violence, silence, and control in patriarchal societies. It's also a portrayal of numberless women who nullify their existence by abdicating dreams and independence.

THE DISCOMFORT THAT STIRS US
Lifelovers Magazine
https://www.lifeloversmag.com/post/how-an-iranian-writer-taught-me-to-appreciate-discomfort
Once, during a late-night escapade when insomnia had me in its grip, I found myself wandering among my beloved books, seeking solace. Then, suddenly, I stumbled upon a forgotten treasure, quite by accident. A poem that had captivated me many years ago, but had since slipped into obscurity among the countless materials accumulated over time. Yet, as I eagerly revisited its lines, the sheer power of its prose washed over me once more, reigniting the profound impact it had once held. As I unlock the hidden gems of this poetic masterpiece, I invite you to join me in sharing my reflections sparked by this serendipitous encounter into the life of an enigmatic Iranian writer, whose work has stirred my soul to its very depths.

WINGS
Short Film
Written by Danielle Lima
Directed by Tiago Di Mauro
A delicate approach to the senses, WINGS is a short film about a woman’s strength, her voice, and innate ability to fly and be free. Her understanding of time and awareness of herself through a much-sought journey riddled with a myriad of experiences that, at some point, will resonate with each one of us.
An ode to femininity.

Bliss
A Woman's Strength
A woman who pieced together her fragmented past, has finally found herself, sprouted her wings and flown, confident enough to begin a new journey. Rising from the ashes, like a phoenix, forging a new identity and feeling ready for what lies ahead.
Written by Brazilian screenwriter Danielle Lima, read by English voice over artist Yvette Smith-bell, with music by American musician and composer Francisco Long, ON ULYSSES' COUCH punctuates a woman's life and emotions as she reflects on the real reasons for her metaphorical death and re-birth.

Confidence
And something else
So much time's passed, she wondered.
A roar urged her to see and feel the world for herself.
Between possibilities. A lump in her throat. And a dilemma:
would she have to stay where she was or,
instead,
move and dramatically shift gear on her life,
picking that bewildering, unfamiliar bridge that only she could see,
and that might eventually lead back to her most genuine self?
Though fear has been a constant company
who'd pop up without warning,
she knew,
deep inside,
there was nothing to fear, but fear itself,
and she relentlessly overcame it by learning how to cope with it.
By trusting life and her craft. By building confidence.

Eavesdroping
Her back to the world as I eavesdrop on this woman's life, conjuring, here, one single narrative from a fine array of possibilities...
Confined to the canvas, is she breaking free from whatever seems to imprison her soul?
By herself, she seems to rely on her own choices, going against swaggering arrogance.
This feeling on the air that edges into a profound sense of loneliness. But, also, a sense of healing that dramatically shifts the gear of her tomorrow.
(Painting by Marta Zamarska)

How I feel
It takes struggle and time to readjust a certain perception of life, to turn a dream once overlooked and stranded somewhere, into a reality made of endless possibilities.
Today, I wonder, 'what was life like for me all these years I've reluctantly neglected my craft and such a meaningful part of who I am?'
But, a restless and reslient urgency within kept screaming itself hoarse, for decades on end, until it finally got my attention.
In writing, I raise my voice, I find myself, I am finally heard. A moment all my own. And I feel exultant.

Pieces Of Creative Writing

From dawn
In the very first hours of the day,
I am an attentive listener
who seems to be, who seems to feel
in a shifting moment in life,
learning to cultivate better versions of myself.
As if closing gates,
compelled to leave the cobblestone streets behind
to set off to an unknown path,
made of quirks and conundrums,
in a constant search for
the peaceful bliss
rather than
the exhilarating one...
With the heart and the hopes of a young creature,
my most obvious reaction to mark it, to herald the brand new hour,
that emerges from dawn,
with light, dusk, wind, rain,
with clarity or ambiguity,
with doubt or sudden certainty,
is to plunge into the inviting sea of astounding opportunities,
or not, utterly unaware of the needles of the clock.
When the growing darkness,
in and out,
is just a reminder of the existence of light.

Memory lane
Recalling a memory from many years ago, she used to wonder, from a very young age, how her life would unfold.
Yes, besides the twists and turns, she being a little disruptive once in a while, her life was nurtured by love and understanding. And that's what truly matters at the end of the day, we all agree. But, would she ever be able to overcome that instinct of fear that resided inside and seemed to be larger than her sense of self?
Time and its transformative outcome bringing a burst of energy.
Flashes of images and a weird feeling that it all would make a neat ending. An enthusiasm surges through her body and soul, challenging her to be herself. She wouldn't go back. It wouldn't vanish.
Those wide eyes saw beyond...
For the first time, she had to do something about it. And she did: embraced life with so much curiosity and amazement that the fear of failing was not an option any longer.

Infinity
What do I see when I look into infinity in search of my several unique narratives for the ordinary?
What do I see when I'm eavesdropping on the world beyond my ceiling and suddenly there comes a wisp of an idea not yet turned into words but willing to find its way to the screen, to paper?
An observational experience triggering the understanding of what was about to be revealed.
From fantastic chaos to a challenging path ahead leading me to answers only I could have.

Light
A life contract with beauty and the sacred,
my beacon of light.
Drawn to the waters that flip the world around,
I'm invigorated by a certain mysticism
hard to put into words, rarely told.
Women,
the feminine that dwells in each one of us,
and our visceral link to the sea,
to its compelling presence that engulfs me
In my constant search for home,
in and out.
In my constant search for myself.
